Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
You need to have passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. The prescribed qualification for all four posts is Class 12 with at least 50% aggregate marks, subject to the exceptions given in the notification.
The 50% aggregate condition does not apply to SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, or to candidates who hold a higher qualification, as specified in the notification. Your qualification should be complete by the closing date of the online application, which is 13 November 2026.
Age limit
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Maximum age: 30 years
- Age counted as on: 1 January 2027
Age relaxation is available for reserved categories, ex-servicemen and other eligible groups under the rules given in the detailed notification. Check the relaxation table for your category before you apply, because the upper age limit changes accordingly.
Other important conditions
- You can apply to only one RRB under CEN 07/2026. Submitting multiple applications, including applications to different RRBs, can lead to rejection and debarment, so choose your RRB carefully.
- You must meet the medical standards prescribed for the post you choose. The medical standard for each post is given in the detailed notification.
- Candidates who are already in government service should follow the rules for informing their employer, as given in the notification.
Salary and Benefits
The initial basic pay depends on the post:
- Commercial cum Ticket Clerk (Level 3): Rs. 21,700 per month
- Junior Clerk cum Typist (Level 2): Rs. 19,900 per month
- Accounts Clerk cum Typist (Level 2): Rs. 19,900 per month
- Trains Clerk (Level 2): Rs. 19,900 per month
In addition to basic pay, selected candidates get allowances and benefits as per railway service rules, which can include dearness allowance, house rent allowance, transport allowance and other admissible benefits depending on posting. Railway employees also get the usual service benefits associated with a regular central government job, as per the rules in force at the time of joining.

Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, EWS and OBC | Rs. 500 |
| SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities and EBC | Rs. 250 |
The fee must be paid online through the payment options given in the application portal, by 15 November 2026. Refund rules, where applicable after appearing in CBT 1, are given in the detailed notification, and any refund is subject to bank charges as specified there. Keep the payment receipt safe until the recruitment process is complete.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Selection is done in stages, and you need to clear each stage to move to the next:
- CBT 1 (Computer Based Test 1): The first screening test for all posts.
- CBT 2 (Computer Based Test 2): The main test for candidates shortlisted from CBT 1.
- Document Verification: Checking of original certificates and eligibility documents.
- Medical Examination: As per the medical standard prescribed for the post.
A major change in this cycle
Under CEN 07/2026, the separate CBT-based Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist posts. This is a significant change from earlier cycles, and it removes one stage that many candidates found stressful. Typing ability will still matter in the actual job, so candidates for typist posts should still be comfortable with typing, even though a separate skill test is not part of this selection process.
CBT 1 pattern, in brief
CBT 1 generally covers General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence and Reasoning, with 100 questions in 90 minutes and negative marking of one-third mark for each wrong answer. The exact syllabus, number of questions, marks and qualifying criteria for CBT 1 and CBT 2 are given in the detailed notification, and you should prepare from that syllabus ratherthan from summaries alone.

About the Railway Recruitment Boards
The Railway Recruitment Boards work under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. There are 21 RRBs across the country, and they recruit Group C staff for zonal railways and production units through centralised notifications and a common online portal.
NTPC stands for Non-Technical Popular Categories, which is the group of popular clerical, commercial and operational posts in Indian Railways that do not require a technical degree. The undergraduate NTPC recruitment is specifically for candidates with a Class 12 qualification, while the graduate NTPC recruitment is a separate notification for degree holders.
Why This Recruitment Stands Out
For many Class 12 pass candidates, this is one of the largest single opportunities in a year, with 1,688 posts and four different roles to choose from. The Commercial cum Ticket Clerk post, with 700 vacancies and Level 3 pay, is likely to attract the most applications, while the clerk posts offer a steadier office-based route into the Railways.
The removal of the separate typing skill test for the two typist posts in this cycle also changes the preparation strategy. It puts more weight on the CBT stages, so candidates should focus on General Awareness, Mathematics and Reasoning, while still keeping their typing skills ready for the job itself.
