A July 2027 Course, Not TGC-144

This post is only about TGC-145, the July 2027 course. It should not be confused with TGC-144, the January 2027 course, whose application window ran from 13 May 2026 to 11 June 2026 and is already closed. It is also different from other Indian Army officer entries such as NDA, CDS, Technical Entry Scheme (TES) and Short Service Commission (Technical) β€” TGC is a direct, Permanent Commission entry for engineering graduates, with no written examination, and it is open only to unmarried male candidates.

Vacancy Details

There are 30 tentative vacancies in total, divided by core engineering stream. The vacancies are tentative and may be changed or re-appropriated according to organisational requirements, as stated in the recruitment summaries.

Streams accepted under each core stream, as reported

  • Civil (8): Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction and Technology, and AICTE-equivalent streams.
  • Computer Science (6): Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Technology, M.Sc Computer Science, Information Technology, and equivalent streams.
  • Electrical (2): Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics, and equivalent streams.
  • Electronics (6): Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation, Instrumentation, Robotics and Automation, Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication, Telecommunication, Opto Electronics, Micro Electronics and Microwave, Fibre Optics, Satellite Communication, and equivalent streams.
  • Mechanical (6): Mechanical Engineering, Production, Automobile, Industrial, Industrial / Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering and Management, Workshop Technology, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Avionics, Mechatronics, and equivalent streams.
  • Miscellaneous Engineering Streams (2): Plastic Technology, Remote Sensing, Ballistics, Bio Medical Engineering, Food Technology, Agriculture, Metallurgical, Laser Technology, Bio Technology, Rubber Technology, Chemical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Mining, Nuclear Technology, Textile, and equivalent streams.

Only the engineering streams and equivalent disciplines notified in the detailed TGC-145 notification are accepted, so candidates should check that their exact degree stream appears in the notification before applying. A stream-name mismatch between the degree or marksheet and the online form can lead to cancellation of candidature, as reported.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria

Basic conditions

  • Gender and marital status: Unmarried male candidates only. Candidates must remain unmarried during training; marrying during training leads to discharge and recovery of training costs, and marrying after applying can mean no induction, as reported.
  • Nationality: Indian citizens, and other categories eligible under the notification, including subjects of Nepal and persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the required eligibility certificate where applicable. Candidates should check the exact nationality clause in the official notification.
  • Age: 20 to 27 years as on 1 July 2027.
  • Education: A B.E. / B.Tech degree in a notified engineering stream, or M.Sc Computer Science where specified for the Computer Science stream, from a recognised Indian university or institution. Engineering degrees from a foreign country are not eligible, as reported.

Secondary summaries differ slightly on the exact date-of-birth range for the 20 to 27 years limit as on 1 July 2027 β€” one gives 1 July 2000 to 30 June 2007, another gives 2 July 2000 to 1 July 2007. Candidates should follow the date-of-birth range printed in the official TGC-145 notification itself, and the date of birth on the Matriculation or Secondary School certificate is the one accepted.

Final-year candidates

Candidates studying in the final year of an engineering degree course, who have not yet passed the final-year examination, may apply, subject to strict conditions:

  • They must submit proof of passing the engineering degree examination, along with marksheets of all semesters or years, by 1 July 2027 to TGC Entry, West Block-III, R.K. Puram, New Delhi-110066.
  • They must produce the engineering degree certificate within 12 weeks of the commencement of training at IMA.
  • Candidates whose final-year or final-semester result will be declared after 1 July 2027 are not eligible.
  • The cumulative percentage up to the sixth semester or third year (eighth semester or fourth year for B.Arch, second semester or first year for M.Sc in the notified equivalent stream) must not be below the approved stream-wise cut-off, and after the final result the cumulative percentage up to the final semester or year must also not fall below the cut-off, failing which candidature will be cancelled.
  • Candidates with a backlog in any semester are not eligible to apply, as reported for TGC entries generally.

Who is not eligible, as reported

  • Candidates withdrawn, dismissed, removed or invalided out from any defence training academy on disciplinary, administrative or medical grounds rendering them ineligible for further military service.
  • Candidates debarred by the UPSC from any examination, or withdrawn from NDA, IMA, OTA, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or any service training academy on disciplinary grounds.
  • Candidates who have been arrested or convicted by a criminal court, or involved in any case, and candidates who suppress material information, including previous training, withdrawal, resignation, dismissal or medical invalidment β€” suppression can lead to cancellation at any stage, even after commission.

Physical standards, as reported

  • Minimum height for men: 157.5 cm, with correlated weight. Relaxation of 5 cm is reported for candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas such as Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, and 2 cm for candidates from Lakshadweep.
  • General fitness: Candidates must be in good physical and mental health, free from any disability, to pass fit.
  • Permanent body tattoos: As per the tattoo policy published on joinindianarmy.nic.in.
  • Fitness standards to achieve before joining IMA, as reported: 2.4 km run in 10 minutes 30 seconds, 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups, 30 sit-ups, 2 sets of 30 squats, 2 sets of 10 lunges, and knowledge of the fundamentals of swimming. One older TGC source gives a different, easier pre-joining run and push-up standard, so candidates should follow the standard printed in the TGC-145 notification.

Salary and Benefits

  • During training at IMA, Dehradun: A fixed stipend of Rs. 56,100 per month for the 12-month training period.
  • On commissioning as Lieutenant: Pay Level 10 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month, plus Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs. 15,500 per month, plus Dearness Allowance and other allowances as applicable.
  • Later ranks, as reported: Captain Level 10B, Rs. 61,300 to Rs. 1,93,900; Major Level 11, Rs. 69,400 to Rs. 2,07,200. Promotion to Captain is after 2 years and to Major after 6 years of reckonable commissioned service, as reported.
  • Other allowances, as reported: House Rent Allowance, Field Area Allowance, High Altitude Allowance, Transport Allowance and Technical Allowance (Rs. 3,000 Tier-I / Rs. 4,500 Tier-II per month), as applicable to the posting.
  • Ante-date seniority: Engineering graduates of the TGC entry receive one year of ante-date seniority from the date of commission for seniority, promotion and increment of pay, as reported.
  • Training cost: The entire cost of training is borne by the Government, subject to the bond and recovery conditions that apply if a candidate fails to produce the degree certificate or leaves training.

Selection Process

There is no written examination. Selection is in these stages:

  1. Shortlisting of applications: Candidates are shortlisted stream-wise on the basis of the cumulative percentage of marks obtained up to the pre-final semester or year of the engineering degree (up to the sixth semester or third year, eighth semester or fourth year for B.Arch, second semester or first year for M.Sc, as applicable). A stream-wise cut-off percentage is fixed, and only candidates at or above it are called for SSB.
  2. SSB interview (5 days, two stages): Held at Selection Centres at Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru and Jalandhar (Kapurthala in one summary).
    • Stage I β€” Screening: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and Picture Perception and Description Test. Candidates who do not clear Stage I are returned on the same day.
    • Stage II: Psychological tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, personal interview and conference, over the remaining days.
  3. Medical examination: Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a medical examination by a Military Hospital board (Special Medical Board, with Appeal and Review Medical Boards where applicable). Candidates already declared medically fit in an Army SSB medical within 270 days of joining the course on 1 July 2027 need not undergo a fresh medical, as reported, subject to the notification conditions.
  4. Final merit list: Drawn up stream-wise from candidates found fit at SSB and medically fit, against the notified vacancies for each engineering stream. Merit is based solely on SSB interview marks, as reported.
  5. Joining letter: Issued to medically fit candidates in merit order for pre-commission training at IMA, Dehradun, commencing July 2027.

  • Original documents for the SSB interview: DigiLocker copies are not accepted instead of originals, as reported; if an institution issued only e-certificates, carry its certificate saying so and a colour printout authenticated by the institution

Original documents will be checked at the SSB and again before training, so the details entered in the form should match them exactly.

About the Indian Army

The Indian Army is the land component of the Indian Armed Forces, headquartered in New Delhi, and it recruits officers through several entries, including NDA, CDS, TES, SSC (Technical) and TGC. The Technical Graduate Course is its Permanent Commission entry for engineering graduates: instead of a written examination, it shortlists directly on engineering marks and then tests candidates at the SSB for officer-like qualities, leadership, teamwork and physical and mental fitness.

Training for TGC is at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, one of the country’s premier pre-commission training academies. On successful completion of about 12 months of training, cadets are commissioned as Lieutenants and posted to units across India, with further training in their arms and services as applicable.

Why This Recruitment Stands Out

For engineering graduates who want a Permanent Commission without a written examination, TGC is one of the most direct routes into the Army as an officer. The entry is small β€” only 30 tentative vacancies β€” so the stream-wise cut-off matters a great deal, and a strong cumulative engineering percentage is the first filter.

At the same time, the conditions are strict and should be read before applying: unmarried male candidates only, a notified engineering stream only, no foreign engineering degree, no backlog, and a final-year result deadline of 1 July 2027. Candidates who meet those conditions and apply before 29 October 2026, 3:00 PM, keep open a route to a Lieutenant’s commission in July 2027 with Level 10 pay, Military Service Pay and one year of ante-date seniority.
