Government Jobs β†’ West Bengal Police Driver Recruitment 2026 (70 Posts): Apply Offline, Last Date Varies by Unit
West Bengal Police Driver Recruitment 2026

TheJobKart brings you the complete details of the West Bengal Police Driver Recruitment 2026. District police offices, the Rapid Action Force and State Armed Police battalions of West Bengal Police have issued separate notices for the engagement of Drivers on a purely temporary, contractual basis, and together those notices cover 70 Driver posts.

Read the structure first, because this is not one central examination with one form and one last date. Each police unit has issued its own notice, its own application form and its own last date, and candidates must apply to the unit they want to work in. The engagement is for one year only, with a consolidated professional fee of Rs. 16,000 per month, and it is not a permanent police appointment. There is no claim for regularisation.

The engagement follows Government Order No. 2980-PL/PB/3P-08/17 dated 30 September 2026 of the Government of West Bengal. Several notices also cite Organisation Order No. 95/ORG//ORG-188/2017 (Pt-III) dated 6 October 2026 of the Inspector General of Police (Headquarters), West Bengal.

Not a WBPRB Regular Recruitment β€” Read This First

This engagement should not be confused with a West Bengal Police Recruitment Board (WBPRB) regular recruitment for Constable, Sub-Inspector or any other permanent post. Those recruitments are run centrally, through an online portal, with a written examination, physical tests and a permanent pay scale.

This Driver engagement is different in every respect:

  • It is issued unit by unit, not centrally.
  • It is contractual for one year, not permanent.
  • It is paid as a consolidated professional fee of Rs. 16,000 per month, not a regular pay scale with allowances.
  • Applications are offline, in a drop box, not through an online portal.
  • Selection is a Driving Test and an Interview totalling 40 marks, followed by a medical fitness test, not a written examination.
  • No claim for regularisation will be entertained, as stated in the notices.

Candidates who want a permanent police job should not treat this as one. Candidates who want a year of contractual driving work with a police unit, and who meet the licence and experience conditions, can apply to the unit of their choice.

Vacancy Details: The 70 Posts, Unit by Unit

The 70 posts are the sum of 11 separate unit notices. Purulia has the most posts (12), followed by Hooghly Rural and Krishnanagar (10 each).

Total70

No category-wise reservation breakup is specified in the notices checked, so this post gives no category table. Candidates should check their own unit notice for any reservation or preference condition.

Two unit notices need a special note:

  • The SAP 8th Battalion notice is a corrigendum. It partially cancels the earlier notice (Memo No. 276/IHQ dated 16 October 2026) and notifies 3 Driver posts.
  • The SAP 13th Battalion notice is a partial modification of its Memo No. 215/IHQ dated 12 October 2026.

Do not add these to the 70

Separate notices for five other units have also been reported β€” SAP 6th Battalion, Barrackpore (4 posts), Government Railway Police, Kharagpur (4), Narayani Battalion, Cooch Behar (4), Sealdah GRP (5) and Baruipur Police District (9), a further 26 posts in total. Those 26 posts are not counted in the 70 above, and they should not automatically be added to it without checking whether any units overlap with the 11 listed here. This post covers only the 70-post set.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria

Most notices carry the same five conditions. Candidates should still read their own unit notice, because a few conditions differ.

CitizenshipIndian citizen
Educational qualificationClass VIII passed, with knowledge of reading and writing Bengali
Age limit21 to 40 years, as on the date of advertisement (Murshidabad: as on the date of publication of the notice)
Driving licenceValid licence for LMV or HMV, held for at least 3 years as on the date of advertisement
Driving experienceAt least 3 years of working experience, with documentary proof

Age relaxation for reserved categories is not specified in the notices checked, so this post gives no relaxation table. Candidates should not assume a relaxation that their unit notice does not print.

Unit-specific differences

  • Kalimpong: The applicant must be a citizen of India and a permanent resident of West Bengal, with residents of the Kalimpong district area preferred. Minimum qualification is Class VIII passed from a recognised school. The notice asks for a valid Four-Wheeler Driving Licence and at least 3 years of driving experience in any Government organisation, Quasi Government organisation or registered private limited company, etc. It does not mention Bengali.
  • Krishnanagar: The applicant must be a citizen of India and a permanent resident of West Bengal, with residents of the Krishnanagar Police District area preferred. Class VIII passed from a recognised school and Bengali reading and writing are required, along with an LMV or HMV licence held for at least 3 years. The 3 years of experience must be in any Government organisation, Quasi Government organisation or registered private limited company, etc.
  • Murshidabad: Age (21 to 40 years) and the 3-year licence period are counted as on the date of publication of the notice. The 3 years of experience must be as a driver, supported by documentary proof.
  • Other units: Age and licence period are counted as on the date of advertisement.

Salary and Contract Period

  • Consolidated professional fee: Rs. 16,000 per month (Rupees Sixteen Thousand only).
  • Contract period: 1 (one) year, purely temporary.
  • Renewal: Kalimpong and Krishnanagar state that renewal is subject to satisfactory performance.
  • Deductions: Kalimpong and Krishnanagar add that the amount is subject to applicable statutory deductions.
  • Regularisation: All notices state that no claim for regularisation will be entertained.

This is a fixed monthly fee, not a pay scale. There is no separate basic pay, grade pay or allowance structure printed in the notices checked.

Important Dates: No Single Last Date

There is no single last date for all 70 posts. Most notices allow receipt of applications within 14 days after publication on the website, but the publication date is not stated in those notices, so candidates must check the unit website or notice board for the operative date. Fixed dates are given only for the units below.

BongaonEmployment (Temporary Basic) Notice No. 01/2026/HAWithin 14 days after publication on the website

Because several fixed dates fall on 31 October 2026 and the 14-day windows run from mid-October publications, candidates should treat this as urgent and check their chosen unit’s notice immediately, rather than waiting for a common last date. A unit whose window has already closed will not accept a late form.

Application Fee

No application fee is mentioned in most of the notices checked. Two notices state the position expressly:

  • Krishnanagar: No application fee will be charged.
  • Murshidabad: No application fee shall be charged at any stage.

Candidates should not pay anyone who asks for money for this engagement, and should check their own unit notice if it mentions a fee.

Selection Process

Selection is through a Driving Test and an Interview totalling 40 marks. Shortlisted candidates with valid applications are called for both stages, and a merit list is prepared on the marks obtained.

Driving Test20
Interview20
Total40

After the merit list:

  • Provisionally selected candidates must undergo a Medical Fitness Test as directed by the competent authority.
  • The selected candidate must submit a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) at the time of joining. Krishnanagar asks for the PCC from the PCC portal of WB Police (pcc.wb.gov.in).
  • Original documents are verified at the time of interview (Kalimpong, Krishnanagar). Murshidabad asks candidates to bring originals when called for the Driving Test or Interview.
  • Kalimpong adds that if the number of applicants is much higher, the authority may shortlist on the basis of educational qualification and driving experience, and the merit list will be published on the Kalimpong District Police website and displayed outside the unit notice board.

There is no written examination and no physical efficiency test printed in the notices checked for this contractual engagement. Do not confuse this selection with the WBPRB Constable selection, which has a written test and physical tests.

How to Apply Offline: Step-by-Step

The notices do not provide an online application link. Candidates must submit the prescribed application form (Annexure-I) offline in the drop box of the concerned unit. Kalimpong and Krishnanagar state that the form must be submitted personally and not by post.

  1. Download the application form from wbpolice.gov.in or the website of the concerned unit. Krishnanagar also distributes forms from its Motor Transport Section at Krishnanagar Police Line.
  2. Fill in the form in capital letters and mention your mobile number.
  3. Paste a recent passport-size photograph (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm), self-attested where the form asks for it.
  4. Attach self-attested copies of the supporting documents listed below.
  5. Where the notice prescribes a superscription for the envelope, write it exactly β€” for example, Kalimpong: “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF DRIVER (CONTRACTUAL), 2026”; Krishnanagar: “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF CONTRACTUAL DRIVER UNDER KRISHNANAGAR POLICE DISTRICT, 2026”; Purulia: “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF DRIVER (CONTRACTUAL), 2026”.
  6. Submit the form in the drop box of the concerned unit before its last date, during office hours where stated.
  7. Keep a copy of the submitted form and the documents for your records. No TA/DA is paid for attending the Driving Test and Interview (Kalimpong, Krishnanagar).

About West Bengal Police

West Bengal Police is the state police force of West Bengal, headed by the Director General of Police, with district police units, commissionerates, armed police battalions including the State Armed Police and the Rapid Action Force, and specialised units such as the Government Railway Police. District Superintendents of Police and battalion Commandants run their own establishments, including Motor Transport sections that maintain and operate police vehicles.

This Driver engagement sits in those Motor Transport sections. Drivers are engaged to drive police vehicles for their unit for one year, under a contract, rather than being enrolled as police personnel. That is why the engagement is issued by each unit, why the fee is consolidated, and why selection is a driving test and interview rather than a police recruitment examination.

Why This Recruitment Stands Out

For drivers, the most important feature of this engagement is its low entry barrier combined with a real, paid posting: Class VIII pass, a licence held for three years and three years of driving experience, with no written examination. For a driver already working in West Bengal, a year with a police unit is steady, documented government-sector experience.

At the same time, the conditions are strict in their own way and should be read before applying: one year only, Rs. 16,000 per month consolidated, no regularisation, offline application only, and a different last date for every unit. A candidate who applies to the wrong unit, misses that unit’s 14-day window, or submits an incomplete form with missing experience proof risks rejection even with a valid licence.
