TheJobKart brings you the complete details of the BPSC School Teacher Recruitment 2026. The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has opened applications for School Teacher posts in government schools across Bihar under the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination, TRE 4.0, and this is one of the largest teacher drives in the state this year.
The headline figure needs a short explanation, because it changed after the first advertisement. The recruitment started with 32,388 posts, and a later corrigendum added 932 posts for Classes 9 to 12, taking the revised total to 33,320 posts. The last date to apply has also been extended, so candidates who missed the original October deadline still have a short window left β but the fee must be paid a day before the form closes.

A Revised Advertisement, Not TRE 3.0
This is TRE 4.0, the fourth phase of the BPSC school teacher recruitment, and it should not be confused with earlier TRE phases. Advertisement No. 14/2026, dated 18 August 2026, was cancelled and replaced by Advertisement No. 15/2026, dated 22 September 2026.
The first version of Advertisement No. 15/2026 offered 32,388 posts. On 29 September 2026, BPSC issued a corrigendum adding 932 posts in subjects that had been missing from the first list, after a revised supplementary requisition from the state government. That is how the total rose to 33,320. Candidates who applied under the earlier figures should check the latest BPSC notices for the revised vacancy position for their subject and class.
A further notice dated 26 October 2026 extended the application dates, following the Supreme Court order dated 1 August 2025 in SLP (Civil) Diary No. 28464/2025, Raman Kumar Mandal and Others versus State of Bihar and Others. The extension notice does not change the fee, eligibility or exam pattern, according to the summaries checked.
Vacancy Details
The revised total of 33,320 posts is spread across four school levels, from primary to higher secondary. The two lower levels are unchanged from the original advertisement; all 932 additional posts are in Classes 9 to 12.
| School Level | Classes | Original Vacancies | Additional Posts | Revised Vacancies |
| Primary Teacher | 1 to 5 | 3,847 | 0 | 3,847 |
| Middle School Teacher | 6 to 8 | 8,563 | 0 | 8,563 |
| Secondary Teacher | 9 to 10 | 3,877 | 493 | 4,370 |
| Higher Secondary Teacher | 11 to 12 | 16,101 | 439 | 16,540 |
| Total | 1 to 12 | 32,388 | 932 | 33,320 |
The additional posts for Classes 9 to 10 are reported in Bengali, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Special School Teacher, Arabic, Persian and Music. The additional posts for Classes 11 to 12 are reported in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic and Persian. Some summaries note that the extension notice mentions 33,320 posts but does not itself give a fresh class-wise breakdown, so candidates should confirm the subject-wise position for their own subject in the latest official vacancy tables before applying.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
Citizenship and basic conditions
You must be an Indian citizen and hold the qualification prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for your post, with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) route for special education where applicable. You must also have passed the teacher eligibility test prescribed for your class, as explained below. A degree alone is not enough β a teaching qualification and a passed eligibility test are both required, except where the notification gives a specific exemption.
Candidates who were appointed as teachers before 2012 and passed the competency test are reported as not needing TET under the notification summaries. Candidates who passed D.El.Ed. in the 2024β2026 training session, exam year 2026, were allowed to apply under a notice dated 13 October 2026 by uploading the web copy of their marksheet.
Educational qualification by class
| Class Level | Main Qualification Routes | Eligibility Test Needed |
| Classes 1 to 5 | 10+2 with 50% (45% under older NCTE norms) + 2-year D.El.Ed.; or 10+2 + 4-year B.El.Ed.; or 10+2 + 2-year D.Ed. (Special Education); or Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed. | CTET or BTET Paper-I |
| Classes 6 to 8 | Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed.; or Graduation / Post-graduation with 50% (45% under older NCTE norms) + B.Ed.; or 10+2 with 50% + 4-year B.El.Ed. / B.A.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed.; or Post-graduation with 55% + 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed., and other routes in the notification | CTET or BTET Paper-II |
| Classes 9 to 10 (general subjects) | Graduation or Post-graduation in the subject with 50% (45% under older NCTE norms) + B.Ed.; or 4-year B.A.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed. in the subject | STET Paper-I |
| Classes 9 to 10 (Physical Education) | Graduation with Physical Education + B.P.Ed. (at least 1 year) or equivalent from an NCTE-recognised institute | STET Paper-I |
| Classes 9 to 10 (Music) | Graduation in Music with 50% or equivalent; B.Ed. not listed for this post in the summaries | STET Paper-I |
| Classes 11 to 12 (general subjects) | Post-graduation in the subject with 50% (45% under older NCTE norms) + B.Ed.; or Post-graduation with 50% + B.A.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed.; or Post-graduation with 55% + 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. | STET Paper-II |
| Classes 11 to 12 (Music) | Post-graduation in Music with 50% or equivalent; B.Ed. not listed for this post in the summaries | STET Paper-II |
| Classes 11 to 12 (Computer Science) | 50% in B.E. / B.Tech. (Computer Science / IT), M.Sc. (Computer Science) / MCA, or other listed combinations; B.Ed. not mandatory for this post in the summaries | STET Paper-II |
Subject rules matter a great deal in this recruitment. A language teacher must generally have studied that language at graduation, and for Classes 6 to 8, Social Science needs any two of the listed social science subjects, while Mathematics and Science needs any two of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. SC, ST, EBC, BC and Divyang candidates get 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks, as reported.
For CTET and BTET, the pass marks reported in the corrigendum summaries are 60% for General category, 55% for Backward Class, Extremely Backward Class and General-category women, and 50% for SC, ST and disabled candidates. For STET Papers I and II, the pass mark is the one set by the Bihar School Examination Board for that sitting. Candidates from outside Bihar are held to the General-category minimum, as reported.
STET 2026 appearing candidates are reported as eligible to apply, but if they do not pass STET 2026 before the written exam, their admit card will not be issued, according to the summaries checked. Candidates should confirm this condition in the official notification before relying on it.
Age limit
Minimum age is counted as on 1 August 2026, while maximum age is counted as on 1 August 2024, as stated in the notification summaries β an unusual split that candidates should verify against the advertisement itself, because it affects who falls inside the limit.
| Category | Age Limit |
| Minimum, Classes 1 to 5 and 6 to 8 | 18 years |
| Minimum, Classes 9 to 10 and 11 to 12 | 21 years |
| Maximum, Unreserved Male | 37 years |
| Maximum, Unreserved Female | 40 years |
| Maximum, BC / EBC (Male and Female) | 40 years |
| Maximum, SC / ST (Male and Female) | 42 years |
| Maximum, Transgender | 42 years |
| Retirement age | 60 years |
Further relaxation is reported for persons with disabilities (10 years over the maximum, with certificate), ex-servicemen (3 years plus defence service period, with actual age not above 57 on the application date), Bihar government regular servants (5 years, only if 5 BPSC attempts counted from 12 December 2022 are not used up), and teachers working under Panchayati Raj or Urban Local Bodies. Petitioners in the Supreme Court case mentioned above are reported to get a one-time chance even if overage, only for those petitioners. Any relaxation not written in the advertisement will not be given, even if the online form asks for that information.
Other important conditions reported in the summaries include: reservation only for Bihar natives, and lost if not claimed in the online form with a valid certificate; 40% of vacancies for candidates who passed Matric or Intermediate from Bihar institutions; caste, residence and non-creamy layer certificates for married women must be in the father’s name and address; EWS certificates must be in the prescribed form and valid for one year, and outside-state candidates cannot claim EWS; and a maximum of 5 attempts in this examination.
Salary and Benefits
All posts in this recruitment are Non-Gazetted. The starting pay reported in the notification summaries is:
| Class Level | Pay as Reported |
| Classes 1 to 5 | Initial pay scale Rs. 25,000 per month + allowances |
| Classes 6 to 8 | Initial pay scale Rs. 28,000 per month + allowances (Graduate Grade) |
| Classes 9 to 10 | Basic pay Rs. 31,000 per month + allowances |
| Classes 11 to 12 | Basic pay Rs. 32,000 per month + allowances |
Allowances are fixed by the State Government from time to time, in addition to the figures above. The exact in-hand salary will therefore depend on the allowances in force at the time of joining and the place of posting.
Important Dates
| Event | Date |
| Advertisement No. 14/2026 released | 18 August 2026 (later cancelled) |
| Advertisement No. 15/2026 released | 22 September 2026 |
| Corrigendum adding 932 posts | 29 September 2026 |
| Online application and fee payment begin | 25 September 2026 |
| Last date for fee payment (original) | 25 October 2026 |
| Last date to apply online (original) | 26 October 2026 |
| Last date for petitioners in the Supreme Court case to submit documents to the BPSC office, Patna | 29 October 2026 |
| Last date for fee payment (extended) | 2 November 2026 |
| Last date to apply online (extended) | 3 November 2026 |
| Written exam date | To be notified separately by BPSC |
Fee payment closes one day before the application form, so candidates should pay the fee first and not leave either step to the final hours. The summaries checked differ on the certificate cut-off date β one gives 30 September 2026 and another gives 26 October 2026 β and one summary notes that an extension of the last date does not extend the certificate cut-off. Candidates should therefore check the cut-off printed in Advertisement No. 15/2026 itself and make sure every certificate was issued on or before that date.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
| All candidates (every category) | Rs. 100 |
| Extra biometric fee, if Aadhaar is not entered as identity proof | Rs. 200 extra |
The fee is paid online only, and bank charges are extra. It is not refundable in any situation. After paying, you cannot add or remove a post without cancelling the payment, and cancelled payments and cancelled applications are not eligible for refund. Candidates applying for more than one class or post group should check on the portal whether a separate fee is payable for each post group, as one summary reports that it is.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Selection is by written examination only, with no interview, according to the notification summaries. Certificate verification is done by the Education Department before appointment, and recommendation by BPSC does not by itself give a right to appointment until documents are verified.
| Stage | Detail |
| Written examination | One paper per class, 150 questions, 150 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes |
| Certificate verification | By the Education Department, before appointment |
| Exam phases | May be held in more than one phase |
The paper pattern reported for each class is:
| Class Level | Paper Pattern |
| Classes 1 to 5 | Part-I Language 30 questions (qualifying) + Part-II General Studies 120 questions |
| Classes 6 to 8 | Part-I Language 30 questions (qualifying) + Part-II General Studies 40 questions + Part-III Subject 80 questions |
| Classes 9 to 10 | Part-I Language 30 questions (qualifying) + Part-II General Studies 40 questions + Part-III Subject 80 questions |
| Classes 11 to 12 | Part-I Language 30 questions (qualifying) + Part-II General Studies 40 questions + Part-III Subject 80 questions |
Each question has five options, A to E, and option E means “not attempting” β you must mark one option for every question. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer and for every question left with no option marked. The language part needs at least 30% to qualify, and there is no re-evaluation.
Minimum qualifying marks reported for the written exam are: General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, and SC, ST, Women and PwBD 32% (Bihar natives only). Merit for Classes 1 to 5 uses Part-II marks; for other classes it uses Part-II plus Part-III marks. If you apply for more than one class, you get a result only in your highest-priority class where you succeed, and your lower choices become void.
Guest teachers (Atithi Shikshak) meeting the prescribed eligibility are reported to get service-based weightage of 5 marks per year of service, up to a maximum of 25 marks, subject to the applicable court orders and Education Department resolutions. Candidates claiming this weightage should check the exact conditions in the official notification.
The syllabus follows SCERT and NCERT, as reported. The exam date has not been given in the notification, so candidates should follow bpsc.bihar.gov.in for the examination schedule and admit card updates.

About BPSC
The Bihar Public Service Commission, based at 15 Nehru Path (Bailey Road), Patna, is the constitutional body that recruits for civil services and other posts under the Government of Bihar. For school education, it conducts the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) for the Education Department, Bihar, to fill School Teacher posts in government schools from primary to higher secondary level.
District allocation and posting after selection are done by the Education Department, not by BPSC alone, and appointment is subject to document verification. That is why the application form asks for district preferences and why every certificate must match the form exactly.
Why This Recruitment Stands Out
With 33,320 posts across all four school levels, TRE 4.0 is one of the biggest single teacher recruitments in Bihar, and the higher secondary level alone accounts for almost half the total. The application fee is also unusually low at Rs. 100 for all categories, which removes a common barrier for applicants.
At the same time, this is not a recruitment to apply for casually. The eligibility rules are post-specific and subject-specific, the certificate cut-off and the split age cut-off dates need careful checking, and the fee deadline falls a day before the form deadline. Candidates who get their subject, class priority and TET details right, and who finish the OTR and fee steps early, are in a much stronger position than those who rush the form on the last day.
