TheJobKart brings you the complete details of the UPESSC PRT Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2026. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, has announced 12,405 Assistant Teacher posts for primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, under Advertisement No. 05/2026.
This is a primary-level recruitment, for Classes 1 to 5, and it should not be confused with the UP TGT recruitment. TGT is a separate advertisement, 07/2026, for Classes 6 to 10, with 17,735 posts. This post is only about the PRT Assistant Teacher selection examination, and it covers two kinds of primary schools in the same advertisement: urban primary schools under the Basic Education Department, and attached primary sections in non-government aided secondary schools under the Secondary Education Department.
Read the dates carefully, because this recruitment has been extended more than once. Applications opened on 16 September 2026. The original last date was 15 October 2026, which was then extended to 28 October 2026. A further notice dated 28 October 2026 then extended the last date for the Associated Primary (aided-school) posts to 4 November 2026, with corrections up to 7 November 2026, after two additional qualifications were added. The written examination is still scheduled for 3 and 4 December 2026.

A Primary Recruitment, Not TGT or PGT
Three UPESSC teacher recruitments are often mixed up, so keep them apart:
- PRT, Advt. 05/2026, this post: Assistant Teacher for primary schools, Classes 1 to 5, with 12,405 posts. The qualifying TET is the primary-level test, Paper-I, for Classes 1 to 5.
- TGT, Advt. 07/2026: Assistant Teacher (Graduate Pay Scale) for Classes 6 to 10 in non-government aided secondary schools, with 17,735 posts. That recruitment needs a subject graduation or postgraduation, a B.Ed., and an upper-primary TET pass, and it is not part of this post.
- PGT: A separate recruitment for Classes 11 to 12, with its own advertisement, subjects and dates, and it is also not part of this post.
If a candidate holds only an upper-primary TET qualification, or only a secondary-level teaching qualification, that does not by itself establish eligibility for this primary recruitment. The primary TET requirement is the point to check first.
Vacancy Details
The 12,405 vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease according to the requirements of the departments concerned. They are divided between two post types:
| Post | Department / School Type | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban | Basic Education Department, urban-area primary schools across 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh | 11,508 |
| Assistant Teacher, Sambaddh Primary (attached primary) | Secondary Education Department, primary sections attached to non-government aided secondary schools | 897 |
| Total | β | 12,405 |
The 897 attached primary (aided-school) posts are further divided by school type:
| Attached Primary School Type | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Boys’ schools | 473 |
| Girls’ schools | 424 |
| Total, attached primary | 897 |
Candidates must state a preference between the two kinds of school when applying, and secondary summaries report that this preference cannot be changed after the closing date. Candidates should therefore decide between the urban primary post and the attached primary post before submitting, rather than treating them as interchangeable.
District-wise vacancies for the urban primary posts are given in the official notification. Some of the largest district totals reported include Bareilly 888, Kanpur Nagar 758, Meerut 635, Aligarh 492, Lucknow 444, Ghaziabad 405 and Saharanpur 448, but candidates should check the district table in the notification for their own district, because the district-wise figure is what matters for posting.
Category-wise Vacancy Details
| Post | UR | OBC | EWS | SC | ST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban | 4,746 | 3,069 | 1,116 | 2,379 | 198 | 11,508 |
| Assistant Teacher, Sambaddh Primary (aided) | 378 | 164 | 7 | 348 | 0 | 897 |
| Total | 5,124 | 3,233 | 1,123 | 2,727 | 198 | 12,405 |
For the attached primary (aided) posts, the category breakup is also reported by school type:
| Attached Primary School Type | UR | OBC | EWS | SC | ST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boys’ schools | 196 | 84 | 4 | 189 | 0 | 473 |
| Girls’ schools | 182 | 80 | 3 | 159 | 0 | 424 |
Reservation in this recruitment follows Uttar Pradesh rules, and secondary summaries report that relaxation benefits for reserved categories apply to Uttar Pradesh domicile candidates. Candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh who belong to a reserved category are reported as being treated as General category candidates for age relaxation purposes. Candidates should check the reservation and domicile conditions in the official notification for their own category.
Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
The basic structure is the same for both post types: a graduation degree, a recognised elementary teacher-training qualification, and a primary-level Teacher Eligibility Test pass. The exact wording differs slightly between the two posts, so read both rows:
| Post | Essential Qualification |
|---|---|
| Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban | Graduation from a university established by law in India, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government, plus any one prescribed teacher-training qualification, plus a Teacher Eligibility Test pass conducted by the State Government or the Government of India |
| Assistant Teacher, Sambaddh Primary (aided schools) | Graduation from a legally established or Government-recognised university or institution, plus B.T.C. or D.El.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised course, plus a Teacher Eligibility Test pass for Classes 1 to 5, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Government or the Government of India |
Recognised teacher-training qualifications, as reported
For the urban primary post, any one of the following prescribed qualifications is reported as acceptable:
- Basic Teacher Certificate (B.T.C.), now run as D.El.Ed.
- Two-year B.T.C. (Urdu)
- Special B.T.C.
- Two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India
- Four-year B.El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education)
- Two-year Diploma in Elementary Education under the NCTE Regulations, 2002
The last two qualifications in that list β the RCI-approved Diploma in Special Education and the four-year B.El.Ed. β were added by the notice dated 28 October 2026, following an Allahabad High Court order dated 24 October 2026 and a Secondary Education Department letter dated 27 October 2026. That addition is the reason for the latest extension to 4 November 2026 for the Associated Primary posts.
The TET requirement β primary, not upper-primary
This is the most important eligibility point in the whole recruitment, and the easiest to get wrong:
- The qualifying test is the primary-level Teacher Eligibility Test, Paper-I, for Classes 1 to 5.
- Accepted tests, as reported, are UPTET (Uttar Pradesh) or CTET (Central), for the primary level.
- The upper-primary TET, Paper-II, for Classes 6 to 8, is the TGT requirement, not the PRT requirement, and it should not be treated as a substitute here.
- Candidates whose TET result is pending on the date of online form submission are reported as not eligible to apply.
- Secondary summaries report the usual TET qualifying marks as 60% (90 out of 150) for General category candidates and 55% (82 out of 150) for reserved-category candidates of Uttar Pradesh, but candidates should confirm the exact TET pass condition in the official notification.
B.Ed. holders β read this before applying
Secondary summaries consistently report that a B.Ed. degree is not listed as an eligible teacher-training qualification for these primary assistant teacher posts. The eligible qualifications are the elementary-level qualifications listed above, such as D.El.Ed. / B.T.C. and B.El.Ed. A candidate who holds only a B.Ed., without one of the prescribed elementary qualifications and a primary TET pass, should check the official notification very carefully before applying, because B.Ed. alone does not establish eligibility for PRT under this advertisement, as reported.
Age limit
Age is counted as on 1 July 2026, and the two posts have different age rules:
| Post | Age Limit as on 1 July 2026 |
|---|---|
| Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban | Minimum 21 years, maximum 40 years |
| Assistant Teacher, Sambaddh Primary (aided schools) | Minimum 21 years; no separate maximum recruitment age is stated in the summaries checked β the superannuation (retirement) age for this post is 62 years |
Age relaxation for the urban post, as reported for Uttar Pradesh domicile candidates:
| Category | Relaxation | Effective Maximum Age |
|---|---|---|
| SC / ST / OBC of Uttar Pradesh | 5 years | 45 years |
| Persons with Disabilities (PwD) of Uttar Pradesh | 15 years | 55 years |
| Ex-servicemen | Military service period plus 3 years | As per rules |
| Shiksha Mitras | Up to 60 years, as reported | 60 years |
Only the single most beneficial relaxation is reported as applicable where more than one could apply. The exact relaxation table, and whether it applies to the attached primary post in the same way, should be confirmed from the official notification, because secondary summaries differ in how much detail they give for the aided-school post.
Other important conditions
- Candidates must be citizens of India, as per the notification.
- Only one application should be submitted for the chosen post type, with the school-type preference stated at the time of applying.
- Candidates already in government service should follow the rules for informing their employer, as given in the notification.
- No change to category, date of birth or gender is reported as permitted after final submission, so the form should be checked carefully before submitting.
Salary and Benefits
| Post | Pay Level | Pay Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Teacher, Primary (both post types, as reported) | Level 6 | Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month |
In addition to basic pay, selected candidates are eligible for allowances such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other allowances, as per Uttar Pradesh government rules and the department or school concerned. The headline Rs. 35,400 starting figure is the Level 6 starting basic pay; the actual take-home pay depends on the allowances in force at the time of joining.
Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Notification released (Advt. 05/2026) | 15 September 2026 |
| Online application begins (OTR) | 16 September 2026 |
| Original last date to apply and pay fee | 15 October 2026 |
| First extension: last date to apply and pay fee | 28 October 2026 |
| First extension: last date for correction | 31 October 2026 |
| Latest extension notice (Associated Primary posts) | 28 October 2026 |
| Latest reported last date to apply and pay fee | 4 November 2026 |
| Latest reported last date for correction | 7 November 2026 |
| Written examination | 3 and 4 December 2026 |
| Exam city intimation and admit card | To be notified before the examination |
A date warning candidates should not miss
The date history needs care. The 15 October 2026 date was the original deadline, the 28 October 2026 date was the first extended deadline, and the 4 November 2026 date comes from the 28 October 2026 notice that specifically names the Associated Primary (aided-school) posts and adds two new qualifications. Some secondary sources present 4 November 2026 as the last date for the whole 12,405-post recruitment, while the Jagran Josh report of the latest notice names the Associated Primary posts specifically.
Candidates should therefore treat 4 November 2026 as the latest reported last date, and check the live application portal on upessc.up.gov.in before applying to confirm whether their chosen post type β urban primary or attached primary β is still open on that date. Do not assume that a deadline that applied to one post type automatically applies to the other.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC / EWS and other candidates | Rs. 1,000 |
| SC / ST candidates | Rs. 500 |
| Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates | Rs. 300 |
The fee is paid online only, through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI, as per the payment options in the portal. The fee is reported as non-refundable. Candidates should keep the fee payment receipt safe, because an application without a successful fee payment is not treated as complete.

Selection is through a written selection examination, followed by document verification, as reported. No interview is reported for this recruitment.

The syllabus, as reported, covers academic subjects up to Class 12 level and pedagogy-related areas at D.El.Ed. level. The exact syllabus topics, qualifying marks and tie-breaking rules should be confirmed from the official notification and syllabus, because secondary summaries differ in how much detail they give. One secondary summary reports a tie-breaking order of graduation percentage, then D.El.Ed. percentage, then older age, but that detail is not confirmed across all sources checked and should be treated as reported, not as settled.
After the written examination, shortlisted candidates are called for document verification, where original certificates, TET qualification and eligibility documents are checked. Final selection is on written-examination merit, subject to document verification, as reported.

About UPESSC
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, based in Prayagraj, is the body that conducts selection examinations for teachers in Uttar Pradesh, including primary, upper-primary (TGT) and post-graduate (PGT) level recruitments for government and aided schools. It publishes advertisements on upessc.up.gov.in, and candidates apply through its online portal using One-Time Registration.
The Assistant Teacher Selection Examination 2026 for primary schools is one of its largest recruitments, covering both urban primary schools under the Basic Education Department and attached primary sections in aided secondary schools under the Secondary Education Department. It is not the same as the TGT or PGT examinations, which have their own advertisements, subjects and eligibility rules.
Why This Recruitment Stands Out
For primary teacher aspirants in Uttar Pradesh, the most important feature of this recruitment is its size and its timing. With 12,405 posts, it is one of the largest primary teacher openings in the state, and it covers both urban primary schools and aided-school primary sections in a single advertisement.
At the same time, the eligibility gate is narrow in a useful way for candidates who already hold the right combination: graduation, an elementary teacher-training qualification, and a primary TET pass. Candidates who hold that combination, and who apply before the latest reported deadline, are applying for a Level 6 teaching post with a written examination only, and no interview reported.
The caution is equally clear: check the post type, check the TET level, and check the live portal date before submitting. A candidate who applies for the wrong school type, or with an upper-primary TET, or after their chosen post type has closed, risks rejection even with a strong examination score.
